Ricky Gervais has faced backlash after he referred to himself as ‘middle-aged’ in a recent tweet.
The comedian was then trolled by Twitter users as they argued that it’s a bit of a stretch to call yourself middle aged, at the age of 62.
Posting the news on Twitter, he wrote: ‘Happy Birthday, Jesus!’ to which a fan asked: ‘Is it suitable to watch with my Nan and Gramp on Christmas Day?’
Replying to the questions, Ricky joked: ‘Depends. Do they enjoy watching a middle age man swearing, joking about the holocaust and pretending to w*** off a paedophile?’

His tweet then sparked a huge debate, as fans trolled the star for labelling himself as middle-aged.
One wrote: ‘calling yourself middle aged at 62 is a bit of a stretch’, while another added: ‘You consider yourself middle age? That’s funny.’
A third commented ‘Sir you are a pensioner’ while other’s simply sent a selection of laughing emojis.
A fourth added: ‘Middle aged is brave’.
Meanwhile other fans seemed shocked to discover the comedian’s real age as one marveled: ‘I thought this guy was like 45, 62 is crazy’.
Another added: ‘could pass for 45 tbh’ and third chimed: ‘Mental that he’s 62.’
A fourth wrote: ‘Wow he looks good for his age’.
Defending the star, another fan decided to settle the debate with a dictionary definition as they posted a screenshot of the Google definition of ‘middle-aged’ which states it refers to a person aged between 45 and 65.
They captioned the post: ‘He’s safe. For now.’

Armageddon has so far made an incredible £26.4 million and Ricky’s net worth has shot up to £132 million.
