Noida: Acting on a complaint lodged by an animal rights activist, Noida police registered an FIR against a pet owner under Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) of the IPC and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
This comes after three puppies were found dead on the balcony shed of a ground-floor flat at Gaur City 1 in Greater Noida West on Wednesday.
“Animal cruelty has happened in this case, be it the case of abuse or negligence. So, action needs to be taken,” said Kaveri Rana Bhardwaj, the complainant. Bhardwaj has demanded that the accused’s other pet dogs be handed over to them for their safety but said that no action had been taken on that front so far.
The accused is a resident of Gaur City 1. According to the police, when the pet parent list was checked, it was found that three puppies belonging to one resident were missing.
The pet owner was detained for questioning on Wednesday. “We have registered an FIR under relevant sections. However, we are still investigating the case,” said Anil Rajput, the SHO of Bisrakh police station.
