Delhi minister Atishi orders action against IP Univ official

NEW DELHI: Delhi education minister Atishi on Friday ordered disciplinary action against the joint registrar of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University for allegedly submitting a “flawed” report before the state fee regulation committee.
The joint registrar, as representative of the university’s vice chancellor in the state fee regulation committee, presented inaccurate reports of three colleges affiliated with the varsity, according to a statement issued by Delhi government. “This impacted the grading as well as the fees of the colleges,” it said. The official against whom action has been recommended was not named in the statement.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the report, the three colleges went to court and demanded reevaluation. Following direction from the court, the report was reevaluated and found to be inaccurate.
“The work of the state fee regulation committee is extremely sensitive. In such a situation, while holding an important position like the joint registrar, such negligence shows a highly irresponsible act. Education is the top priority of Delhi government and any kind of negligence in education will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action will be taken against the officials concerned,” Atishi said.
The state fee regulation committee has been constituted under the Delhi Professional College and Institution Act 2007. The committee conducts joint assessments of self-financing colleges under IP University. Based on this assessment, the committee gives its report. Based on that report, the grading of the institutions is done, and their fees are determined.
“This committee has been formed by the government so that no college can arbitrarily increase its fees and burden the students with unnecessary fees,” she said.
The university officials did not respond to queries from TOI regarding the matter.
