Who are Australian Idol's most popular singers globally? See the surprising list of stars who gained worldwide fanbases from the reality show

Australian Idol singers have been ranked by their global popularity, in data compiled by streaming giant Spotify

The show has spawned huge successes including Guy Sebastian and Anthony Callea, but the list had a few surprises.

Spotify collected data from 2008 to present times, with runner-up from the 2007 season of Idol, Matt Corby, taking the top spot.

Matt is the most globally streamed performer from the show, with 576 million streams thanks to hits, Brother and Resolution.

No surprises the second spot was Guy Sebastian, who has found continuous chart success since winning the first season of Idol.

Sebastian had 530 million streams around the world.

Pop A Bottle hitmaker Jess Mauboy was third on the list. She was followed by Stan Walker, the winner from Idol in 2009.

The top ten had a number of other surprises including Lisa Mitchell and Shannon Noll, who came in fifth and sixth.

Casey Barnes, Ricki-Lee Coulter and Ngaiire came in seventh, eighth and ninth.

Rounding out the tenth spot was Anthony Callea, who had a hit with The Prayer.

Turning attention to Australia, it was Guy Sebastian who took out the top spot, with 275 million streams.

Guy song Coach was the most streamed song in Australia from any Idol star.

Corby’s Brother and Resolution took the next two spots. Sebastian took the fourth spit with his song Battle Scars.

The Australian Idol reboot is finding its feet with viewers.

The new season of Idol will see Kyle Sandilands, 52, and Amy Shark, 37, and Marcia Hines in the judging chairs.

Fellow judges Harry Connick Jr and Meghan Trainor won’t be returning, leaving the panel one person down.

An insider told Yahoo part of the reason behind the series makeover was to ensure next year’s season had more focus on music than the behind the scenes drama.
