Ariana DeBose, who admitted she grew up as a ‘Disney kid’ provides the voice of Asha in Wish.
She’s a young girl who lives in a magical kingdom ruled by Chris’ King Magnifico.
He’s supposed to grant the wishes made by his subjects, but as Asha learns soon after she goes to work as his assistant, the king only grants the wishes he chooses.
In an effort to make things more fair in the kingdom, Asha goes rogue and wishes upon a star, and ends up getting more than she bargained for.
Ariana previously said about the film: ‘Asha is magical.
‘And I think what I love about her is she’s so selfless. Her wish is not for herself, it’s for everyone around her and given the world we live in today, I think that’s a beautiful thing to have models for young people.’
In addition to making a ‘wish upon a star,’ Ariana said there are lots of hidden nuggets from other Disney films in the story, which helps celebrate its 100 years in cinema.
‘One of the hidden gems is that Asha has seven friends, SEVEN friends,’ she emphasized, ‘and they all have really, really cool personalities.’
She revealed there are also ‘seven gorgeous, new original songs,’ in the movie as well.
Ariana described Asha’s foe, King Magnifico as ‘an amazing Disney villain’ voiced by ‘the delicious Chris Pine… and I have to say, he’s quite good looking.’

Hidden gems: Wish is being released as part of Disney’s 100 year anniversary. Ariana said the movie is full of hidden gems from past films. She offered a hint about one gem revealing ‘Asha has seven friends, SEVEN friends, and they all have really, really cool personalities’
After winning an Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG, BAFTA and Critics Choice awards for her role as Anita in West Side Story, Ariana said she is still a ‘nervous vocalist.’
‘That is actually an area of my life that I work on building my self-confidence every day,’ she explained.
She said working with composer Julia Michaels she was able to shake off some of her concerns.
‘I believe in this music and it helped me find colors and abilities in my own vocals that I didn’t know were there.’
Wish opens in theaters the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 22.Â
